A Child's Garden Preschool

Growing Strong Minds and Happy Hearts!

"A Child's Garden" preschool will help our young children to grow and love to learn. With our wonderful programs our children will be able to grow in a positive, loving and fun educational environment.

CORE VALUES:

Self Confidence - Each child will learn to be proud of their self and the work that they do.
Respect - Each child will have a greater respect for their teachers, each other and their self.
Love - Each child will be taught in a loving way through the "Love and Logic" techniques.

Our Curriculum

A Child's Garden is using well researched and wonderful programs for our curriculum. Students will be going above and beyond the standard subjects and learning areas such as Sign Language (from a Certified Signing Time instructor). We take amazing lesson plans and add them into our daily preschool curriculum. So the students will learn so many signs; a second language, they will also learn Spanish on a daily basis. Areas such as Science, and Poems (age appropriate) will also be taught, they will also work on their reading skills with the "Learning A-Z" program which is a Leveled Reading program based off of Fountas & Pinnell and Reading Recovery leveling criteria, as well as growing their creativity with many arts and crafts projects each week.

We will be teaching in the 8 following categories:

#1 Physical
#2 Social/Emotional
#3 Cognitive
#4 Number/Letter/Shape/Color/Activities
#5 Creative Expression
#6 Music and Rhythm
#7 Beginning Pre-Reading
#8 2nd Language

All teachers will be trained in the "Love and Logic" technique's which will help our teachers to create a peaceful and caring learning environment for their students. This will create a great respect for teachers and students as well as create a place where the teacher loves to teach and the student loves to learn.

Breadth and Depth:

We offer a set of thematic studies that supports both a breadth and depth of learning experiences.

* Each year, we use a combination of nine themes from the three categories of self, nature and global.
* Each month, children expand their knowledge by digging into the depth of one theme.
* Each day, children explore a subtopic and participate in activities and sensory experiences designed to offer diverse perspectives.

The result is an intentionally formed web of information that is organized around a series of themes and connects abstract concepts of letters, numbers, colors, shapes, poems, art and facts and much more. This web assists children in achieving maximum results in the storing and recall of information within their memory.

Some other exciting things about our preschool include things such as but not limited to:
Flat Stanley - Flat Stanley travels to your child's home for a week so your child can take care of him and travel to far away places. Your child will get to journal about there experiences every day and share it with the class.
Weekly Emails - every week you will receive a letter called "What's Happening This Week" this way you will always know exactly what your child is doing in school each day. You will also receive all kinds of up dates and information so you will never feel like you don't know whats happening at school.
Field trips and Parties - Every year we take field trips, They always have to do with what we are learning about so they change from year to year. We have many fun class parties the kids always have a great time.
Portfolio's - All year long we keep a portfolio of everything your child/children do in class each month. This is great because you can keep everything together and it makes it easy to be able to compare where they were at in the beginning of the year and where they are now.

Pre-K (only) Additional Curriculum:

Not only does our Pre-K include everything you read above but we go even deeper. with our "EXPERIENCE PRE-K"

This innovative Pre-K system allows our students to dig deep into learning by planning, investigating, and creating unique and personalized projects. "Experience Pre-K Projects" joins brain-based research with Reggio-inspired methods.

LITERACY-FOCUSED
Each project is partnered with a quality piece of children’s literature by Barefoot Books publishers. The books function as the key tool for finding information, practicing skills and inspiring children to become authors of their own stories.

Students document their learning and inquiries in their Story Design Journal. These journals offer students a special place to read simple phonic-based stories and creatively write a story of their own.

OPEN-ENDED PROJECTS
Our project planners offer a step-by-step guide for implementing a project with our students. The project planners help us challenge our students to investigate their questions through experiences in art, music, experimentation, mathematical reasoning, reading and writing.

There are three primary phases to each project designed to encompass approximately 20 days of activities:
1. Planning phase: Plan the story
2. Investigation phase: Be in the story
3. Documentation phase: Share the story

SKILLS FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS
Experience Pre-K Projects offers a research-based skill continuum that clearly explains the learning steps from level (age) 4 to 8 in areas of language, math, social and physical development. This allows us to adjust the skill level of each activity to continuously challenge and support our students learning.

HOW IT WORKS
Experience Pre-K Projects invites our students to ask big questions and explore their ideas close to home, in nature and around the world. Our projects are organized in three rings of personal connection to learning.

Within each ring are various areas of exploration.

Once students begin to explore, we offer a 2-3 project experiences that can be used in any order based on our students interests. Also Enjoy watching your child learn and ask for More Reading & Writing! Each month features a new More Reading & Writing activity book that extends the skills in your our curriculum! In our 4 day a week class not only will your child learn everything above but you will also get to enjoy watching your child learn and ask for More Math! Each month features a new More Math activity book that extends the skills in our curriculum! Look for other More Math titles to nurture your child’s love of logic, numbers, and problem-solving

As you can see, we have so many great things happening here for both the student's and their parent's.

Your children will have a wonderful experience. Please read below to learn more about our Art Program and the Signing Program.

“The Way They See It”

This program is wonderful.
Our children can only make art from what they know, so if we want our children to create original works of art, they must be made aware of the world in which they live. This program will help them do just that!
Creating art has more going for it than making pretty pictures. Making art requires children to make their own decisions about their picture and that produces sharper thinking skills. Fine motor skills are developed as children draw, which helps to improve handwriting. Communication skills and story sequencing skills develop as children talk about the pictures they produce.

Signing Time:

Based on an award-winning PBS show, these classes (and the Signing Time videos) teach American Sign Language child with music, pictures, games, silly songs, poems and activities. You will be amazed how quickly your child will learn this beautiful language.

Please Join us in what will be an amazing, eye opening, fun experience for our students.

About Us

President/Owner/Teacher - Emily Vasica:

Emily is the Mother of 4 beautiful children. She loves her family, anything outdoors and scrap booking. She graduated from Brighton High school in 1999. She has also taken many State Educational Training's and has completed the "Love and Logic" courses. She has been a childcare provider for 9+ years, during that time she has learned what is most important to help our children to grow and inspire them to learn.
Emily has such a passion for our Children's education! Because of this passion she became one of the two original Co-Founders for Providence Hall Charter School in March of 2006. This is a K-6 elementary school that gives 700 children a wonderful education each year (and is currently adding a 7-9th grade which will house an additional 450 students due to the wonderful current board). Although she is no longer an active member of Providence Halls Board of Trustees, she is grateful and honored to forever be a Historic Member of Providence Hall.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Emily helped write the Charter that received approval from the Utah State Board of Education. She was the Vice Chair from March 2006 until September 2007 and she was the Facility Chair until April 2008. Her job's were designing all of the facilities interior and exterior, buying much of the furniture and over-seeing that the facility was being built right and on time. She also spent a lot of time helping in the curriculum areas of the school, she helped watch and research several of the amazing programs that are being used in Providence today.
Emily has worked very hard to help create this school along with many other wonderful Founding Members, and she is continually working hard to ensure a wonderful education for our younger children as well.
Emily Started " A Child's Garden Preschool" in September of 2007. After extensive research she has put together wonderful programs for our preschool age children. She is committed to giving our younger children a wonderful education to help prepare them for their future.
Louri was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She loves hanging out with her family and friends! Her favorite activities are camping, boating, wake boarding, canoeing, and going to the movies. After graduating High School in 1995 she immediately took a job as a Nanny for two great families. Now she has a wonderful family of her own which includes 3 beautiful children. She met her husband while vacationing here in 1997 and decided to make Utah her permanent home. She has always enjoyed working with children. She has had various church callings where she has been able to teach music and various lessons to children from the age of 18 months to 18 years old. One of her favorite jobs was working in the Gold's Gym Daycare. She loved getting to know so many great families! She chose to put 2 of her children in A Child's Garden Preschool because Mrs. Emily incorporates three things that she's always had an interest in for her and her children. First, learning the Spanish language. Louri took several Spanish language courses in and after High School. She realized after moving to Utah how valuable it would truly be to know Spanish. She looks forward to sharing what she has learned with your children! Second, she loves that Signing Time is incorporated at the preschool. After her son received several videos for his birthday she was hooked! Her older daughters even loved watching the videos and doing the signs. Third, the use of Love & Logic in the classroom. She's a big believer in Love & Logic and is grateful for the positive affect it has had in her home. The use of it produces a more positive learning environment in the home and in the classroom. It encourages children to do for themselves and raises their confidence. She looks forward to being a teacher and seeing the growth in all of your amazing children!
